What is Love?

Most would say that love is the respect and admiration amongst two people. A day to commemorate what is known by others that is observed through public displays of expression. A day commonly known as Valentine's Day. I am not against this day. However, I am against Hallmark, Mahogany, and others exploiting consumers to believe that in order to express your undying love you have to purchase cards, chocolate, flowers, and balloons. Shouldn't love be expressed daily and starting with the person in the mirror?

Love yourself before loving others

Far too long there have been individuals professing the need to live with another person's affection in order to go on each day. I overheard a conversation discussed amongst two women. It consisted of one of the ladies and a gentleman. She indicated that she knew the man wasn't good for her. They both met during a younger age when each were wild and free. She now has moved on mentally and spiritually. She's earned a college degree, great paying career, and valuable assets.

He on the other hand wants to continue to party and play. He's unfocused and at times [regrettably] puts his hands on her. This lady was making excuses after the next. She clearly loved this man more than she loved herself.

Find out what makes you happy and in love with yourself. Before you can appreciate someone else you have to love and appreciate yourself. This lady sounded like she subjected herself to his behavior and allowed him to treat her as he wanted because she didn't love who she was. Although, she stated she stayed because she loved him. Really!!!!

I took the time to google Valentine's Day. It indicated a day to write notes and send cards to express love in a mutual relationship. How about writing notes to yourself? The notes can be a reminder that your are beautiful, smart, and valuable. Once you believe what is written and practiced in the daily love notes to yourself then that's when a loving and lasting relationship begins.
